The education system is rough in Korea. Long working days from a very young age, if you’re staying near a university or school you’re sure to see people in uniforms walking around close to midnight as they’ve been studying in school all day. Cafés are also a popular place to study in, buy a cheap Americano (see ‘Americano’ post) and you can sit there all day with free wifi and the code for the toilets. Cafés are often open 24/7 around exam season and you’ll find students moving from the university at around 9pm, when they get chucked out, to a café to continue working. It’s an extremely tough system and can’t be ignored when you’re coming back on the first train from a night clubbing and the person next to you is going home after studying.
